AppleScript Email Announcer

For some reason I find this incredibly trick.. It’s old but I’ve just discovered it. It’s an AppleScript that reads the “from” field of incoming email messages using Mac OS text-to-speech. To use it, launch AppleScript Editor and paste in the code. Save it somewhere on your disk. Then create a rule in Mail.app (Preferences, Rules) and set the action to Run AppleScript, selecting the script file that you saved.

Movie trailer AppleScript

This is a cool scripting idea to have Quicktime movie trailers play automatically before a DVD. Of course my setup would be quite a bit different. Does the G5 iMac have DVI out? And I would want to play a few VOB Dolby trailers also so I may prefer setting up a playlist in VLC. Ideally with a kick-ass G5 I could play 1080i HD movies in VLC also. But once I get my new theater set up I might want to use the Xbox instead. It just seems a lot easier. That is only if XBMC supports video playlists. Then I would just create a playlist of trailers and add the movie to the playlist. But that still wouldn’t address HD playback…Hopefully the iMac G5 can play HD pretty well. After all a 20″ 1.8GHz iMac is only around $2k.
